Accessibility statement

Made to be explored by everyone

Augmented reality is one way into this exhibition, not the only one. If you cannot or would rather not use a camera, every artwork is available without it.

Our goal

Exe.Vision aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the website. It is built to work with keyboards, screen readers, browser zoom and reduced-motion settings. This is a goal we work towards, not a formal certification.

What you can expect

  • A full experience without a camera. Each artwork page has the image with a written image description, the artwork's story, narration with a transcript, and a description of what the AR experience shows.
  • Keyboard access. Every page, menu and control works with Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space and Escape. A “Skip to main content” link is the first thing on every page.
  • Screen readers. Pages use headings, landmarks and labelled controls. In the AR viewer, finding or losing an artwork is announced in words.
  • Buttons for every gesture. In AR, turning and zooming the artwork can be done with on-screen buttons as well as with touch gestures.
  • Readable text. Text and controls meet contrast requirements, and the site works when text is enlarged or the page is zoomed.
  • Never colour alone. Status and errors are always written out, not only shown in colour.
  • Calm motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, decorative animation is switched off.
  • No surprises. Narration never plays on its own, and the camera is only requested when you tap Start.
  • Light and dark. The site follows your device's light or dark setting.

Limitations we know about

  • The AR experience needs a camera and a steady hand. It asks you to point a device at an artwork, which not everyone can do. That is why every artwork has a complete camera-free page.
  • Browser pinch-zoom is off inside the AR viewer only. There, a pinch resizes the artwork instead of the page. Use the zoom buttons in the viewer, or open the artwork's page, where browser zoom works normally.
  • Some older artworks may have shorter descriptions. New artworks cannot be published without an image description and a transcript for any narration.

Something not working for you?

Please tell a member of the exhibition staff what you were trying to do and what happened. We treat accessibility problems as bugs, and fix them as such.
